We offer comprehensive neurological health services while making sure you have access to the type of care that is just right for you. Our neurosurgeons specialize in the surgical intervention and treatment of neurological conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. They use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, such as laser, endoscopic, and robotic surgery typically lead to faster recoveries so you can get back on your feet as quickly as possible.

Brain surgery

Our surgeons have experience performing a wide range of brain surgeries, including:

  • Brain tumor surgery
  • Cerebral-spinal shunts
  • Chiari malformation surgery
  • Craniectomy
  • Craniotomy
  • Surgery of the skull base
  • Deep brain stimulation
  • Pituitary gland tumor excision
  • Neuro-endoscopy
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (also called knifeless surgery)

Spine surgery

Through our spine care program, we offer comprehensive diagnostics and treatments for diseases and disorders of the spine. Our specialists provide nonsurgical and surgical care for conditions affecting the whole spine, including the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Sometimes, medications, physical therapy, and other noninvasive treatments can alleviate pain or discomfort from spine conditions. However, if nonsurgical means don't resolve your condition or pain, spine surgery may be suggested.

We offer several different surgeries and procedures for patients with spine and disc issues, including:

  • Disc replacement surgery
  • Kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty
  • Microdiscectomy
  • Spinal compression fracture repair
  • Spinal discectomy
  • Spinal fusion
  • Spinal internal fixation
  • Spinal reconstructive surgery
  • Ulnar nerve decompression

Brain and spinal tumor treatment

Brain and spinal tumors can be malignant (cancerous) or benign (noncancerous). At HCA Houston Brain & Spine, we have expert physicians, resources and state-of-the-art technologies to treat malignant and benign tumors.

Our neurological care teams work together — and with other specialists, as needed — for diagnostics, treatments, and therapies as part of your comprehensive brain tumor care. This type of multidisciplinary care is essential to treat the tumor as well as any neurological complications (such as the tumor putting pressure on surrounding nerves) that may happen because of it.

Our neurologists and neurosurgeons collaborate with our network's cancer specialists to offer complete neuro-oncology treatment for malignant spine tumors and brain cancer. This allows us to deliver a highly specialized plan of care, including advanced cancer treatments.

Together with our network's cancer treatment program, we offer you complete care — from diagnosis and treatment through survivorship.

Some of the interventional procedures we perform include:

  • Cerebral angiogram
  • Brain aneurysm embolization
  • Brain/Cerebral and spinal arteriovenous malformation and fistula embolization
  • Carotid artery stenting
  • Central nervous system (CNS) tumor embolization
  • Endovascular treatment of pseudotumor

Your neurological rehabilitation

Neurological rehabilitation is a specialized type of physical therapy and rehabilitation. It is often necessary after a neurological injury, surgery, or emergency, such as a stroke. That's why we are pleased to connect our patients to neurological rehabilitation programs within our network.

This type of therapy focuses on restoring and improving cognitive abilities, movement and other functions essential to everyday life. As part of your neurological rehabilitation, you may work with speech therapists, physical therapists and/or occupational therapists.

The therapy team communicates with your neurologist or neurosurgeon to create a rehabilitation plan specifically tailored to your condition, abilities and recovery.
